Director ID Numbers – Deadline extended

Australia’s Director Identification Number (DIN) regime came into effect on 1 November 2021, and required all individuals who have acted as a director since 4 April 2021 to apply for a DIN.

On 15 November the ABRS issued a draft legislative instrument which removes former directors from this requirement. Therefore only individuals who are directors on 30 November 2022 will be required to obtain a director ID.

The original deadline for obtaining a DIN was 30 November 2022, however in light of the large number of directors who have not yet applied, this has been extended.

The Registrar of the ABRS has said that they will be applying a “pragmatic compliance approach to directors who are required to apply for a director ID by 30 November 2022, if they apply by 14 December 2022.”

All directors of a company, registered Australian body, registered foreign company or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation will need a director ID. This includes directors of a corporate trustee of self-managed super funds (SMSF) and directors of charities registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).

If you have not done so already, please apply via the ABRS Website. We are not able to complete the application on your behalf, however if you have any queries please feel free to contact our office.
